3 Popsicle Lip-Inspired Looks for NYE

2021, don’t let us down—the New Year couldn’t come soon enough. With celebrations canceled, you may feel tempted to celebrate in the same sweatpants you’ve been wearing throughout 2020. Let me stop you right there.

I believe that the way you choose to begin the year sets the tone for its duration. As you countdown from home, I encourage you to put on some real clothes (fine, cute PJs will work) and a touch of shimmering makeup to get you into the holiday spirit.

This year, don one of these reverse ombré lip looks inspired by the Korean gradient trend, popsicle lips. Color is smudged and layered for a worn-off effect with deeper shades concentrated on the inner part of your lips, so it looks like you just finished eating a popsicle. Plus, I added metallic and glittery products to the mix because it wouldn’t truly be NYE without a little sparkle.

Show off your festive kisser at a virtual party and snap a few pics to finish off this unimaginable year with a shred of normalcy.

Look #1: Pop(sicle) the Champagne

Featuring:

  1. Swipe Uoma Beauty Metallic Lipstick in Lady Of Gold onto the center of your lower lip and press lips together to transfer color. Using a lip brush, blend out this shade to cover lips with a sheer wash of bright gold.

  2. Apply Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Sarafine to the inner part of your lips, and don’t fill out to the edges. When blending, localize efforts to the center of your lips for a burst of deep red color.

  3. Add Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Jewel Lips in Champagne Diamonds to your lower lip for a glossy, glitter finish.

Look #2: Pop Off in Purple

Featuring:

  1. Swipe Uoma Beauty’s Metallic Lipstick in Bahia onto the center of your lower lip and press lips together to transfer color. Using a lip brush, blend out this shade to cover lips with a sheer wash of iridescent gold.
  2. Using the doe foot applicator, add a small amount of Stila’s Liquid Lipstick in Paradiso to the center of your lower lip. Press lips together and blend the purple-hued shade outward using a lip brush. Aim to completely cover your lips. Don’t worry if the color isn’t evenly distributed, we’re going for a stained/worn off effect. After blending, reapply Paradiso to the inner part of your lips, don’t fill out to the edges. When blending, localize efforts to the center of your lips for a burst of pigmented purple color.

  3. Add clear lip gloss to the center of your lower lip.

Look #3: Pop Out the Merlot

Featuring:

  1. Swipe Uoma Beauty Metallic Lipstick in Bahia onto the center of your lower lip and press lips together to transfer color. Using a lip brush, blend out this shade to cover lips with a sheer wash of iridescent gold.
  2. Apply a small amount of Becca Cosmetics Ultimate Lipstick Love in Merlot to the inner part of your lips, and don’t fill out to the edges. When blending, localize efforts to the center of your lips for a burst of red berry color.

  3. Top of the look by adding clear gloss to the center of your lips.
