What Is a Hair Rinse?

A hair rinse (not the color rinse kind)is a conditioner for your hair AND scalp. They come in an almost endless variety and can be made up of single or multiple ingredients. Hair rinses are usually used after shampooing (and possibly, also after using your regular conditioner).

Pour it over your hair and let it stay for a few minutes. You can work it in by combing it through or by giving yourself a scalp massage. Rinse your hair and continue to style as usual. Enjoy!

4 Hair Rinse Benefits

Hair rinses carry a wide range of benefits for hair growth and hair health. Plus, each type of hair rinse will add the benefits of the ingredients used to make it. Some may be more moisturizing while others are more soothing to your scalp, for example.

Here are four of the benefits you can expect from your next hair rinse DIY adventure!

  • Hair rinses add moisture to your strands. In doing so, they help to fight the frizzy effect humidity can have on your hair, especially on naturally curly hair. Moisture is also important for maintaining the protein-moisture balance in each strand. This balance helps to keep hair strong and elastic, keeping brittleness and breakage at bay.
  • Hair rinses provide nourishment to your scalp. Hair rinses are often made with ingredients, such as aloe and coconut, that are very rich in nutrients. This is super important since the scalp is where the growing cells of the hair follicles are located. A healthy scalp is one way to guarantee you will have strong, healthy hair.
  • Hair rinses can be used as a treatment for certain scalp conditions. If you suffer from dry scalp or dandruff, there are different types of at-home treatments you can use to tackle them. These include hair rinses that feature jojoba oil or avocado oil.
  • Hair rinses are a way to pamper yourself! Self-care should never be seen as an indulgence because when we take care of ourselves it makes us better able to love and care for others. Taking the time for a DIY hair rinse that will leave your hair smoother, shinier, healthier, and bouncier is a good self-care move. So, go ahead and enjoy some me-time with the 5 hair rinses we have lined up for you!
