Shondaland is where the badasses live – and as evidenced by her latest purchase, Ms. Shonda Rhimes is the ‘baddest badass’ of them all.
According to the NYPost, the “Grey’s Anatomy” creator has closed on a spectacular 11-bedroom mansion in Westport, Connecticut, for a whopping $15.17 million.
Shonda purchased the sprawling New England Colonial Home from the founders of the Melissa & Doug toy company, Doug and Melissa Bernstein, in a private sale, a local source revealed on Thursday (Oct 13).
“It’s a high sign that Westport is very valuable and that a big house in this town commands a lot of money no matter the neighborhood,” the source said, noting that it’s a rarity that on-waterfront homes sell for over $10 million in the charming suburban town.

The megamansion– which covers around 7.5 acres of land – features amenities such as a basketball court, an arcade, bowling alleys, a home theatre, a billiards room, a concession stand, a playroom, eight fireplaces, and a kitchen with its own a pizza oven.
Karen Scott, a listing representative for the million-dollar firm Compass, shared the sale details on her Instagram account. However, she didn’t mention the buyer’s name at the time. Shortly after concluding the deal, Ms. Scott wrote, “Honored to have represented my clients in the sale of this exclusive residential compound.”
“Unparalleled almost everywhere, this magnificent property traded hands last week as the highest non-waterfront property transfer in Westport’s history with a final sale price of $15.175M.”
She added, “On behalf of myself, my partners on the KMS Team, and Compass, we thank these long-time clients for again placing their trust in us to handle this discretely and professionally.”
Shonda Rhimes has spoken openly about her love for the Fairfield County Beach Town, which is situated about an hour north of Manhattan. She also owns a New York City apartment inspired by her Netflix series “Bridgerton.”
“I had been immersed in the romanticism of ‘Bridgerton’ for a while, so that had to influence some of the things that I had been thinking about,” the award-winning screenwriter/producer/author told Architectural Digest of the pied-à-terre.
“Everything sort of spills into everything else. If I’m thinking about these books that we’re turning into a series, then that inevitably spills into how the apartment’s going to look, which inevitably spills into what goes in the scripts — it all sort of spins together.”
Reps for Shonda Rhimes did not respond to requests for comments concerning the big purchase.
